10-19-03 03:19 Reply | So I was perusing people's profiles on AIM today, and I got to my girlfriend's, and it had a mysterious link on it. "That wasn't there earlier today," I thought to myself. So I clicked it. It took me to a site telling me that if I buy their software, they can remove unwanted materials from my computer. At the very same time, I got a message from Symantec AntiVirus saying, "Hello, you just got a virus. We couldn't clean it and we couldn't quarantine it, so we decided that the best course of action was to just leave it alone. This could 'cause problems for you in the future. In other words, you're basically effed." So I think, what a nice scam these guys have... infect you with a virus and at the same time ask for money to remove it. Brilliant. I officially hate people now.
But then I started thinking, "Wait, why couldn't my antivirus program do anything to the virus?" What the Hell good is an antivirus program if it just leaves the viruses alone? Doesn't the phrase "antivirus" mean like, "We're gonna make sure you don't get any viruses"? So thanks Symantec. At least I have a heads-up now that there's a virus on my computer, and there's not a Goddamn thing I can do about it. Great.

It's not common nor really possible (assuming you have the latest Windows patches) that you can get a virus merely from visiting a website. |

10-19-03 04:07 Reply | You never know. According to my English teacher from last year, computers (which I assume includes the software on them) will get smart enough to conquer the world. Now keep in mind that he's a Vietnam War Veteran, and may have a few problems in his head or something.
Xathien was in that class with me. He should be able to confirm this, if he was awake while the teacher was talking about it... |

10-22-03 04:33 Reply | Matrix = bomb. But it's rated R, so Jeremiah probably wouldn't have seen it. I want to see it again, but my parents won't let me. Even though they showed me in the first place. Blah. But the virus, you could try deleting the original file and then attempting to clean out, or booting from the rescue disk to see if that helps. If that doesn't work, yeah, you're effed. |

The Matrix was such an awesome movie when it came out. I, very much like Neo in the movie, was like, "Whoa." And if you didn't think The Matrix was good, why would you want to see it again? I'm confused.
