04-19-06 22:57 Reply | I think many people mix together legal and illegal immigration in their mind when they join the marches and rally "for immigration rights."
To me, illegal immigration is defined by the first word: illegal. They should all be unequivocally deported immediately. We can't ignore laws.
I see the real issue as the question of whether we should allow the illegal immigrants to become legal immigrants or if our immigration system otherwise needs changing.
My opinion is first, as I said, all illegal immigrants ought to be rounded up and deported. Then we should build a nice wall along the southern border with a flat top so Border Patrol agents can drive along and efficiently patrol.
In terms of immigration policy, we ought to drastically raise the quotas. We should allow enough immigrants in through either a guest worker program or permanent residency so that the pressure towards illegal immigration is abated. So long as we force them to learn English and not cater with Spanish programs, I have no problem with letting 2 million immigrants a year into the country even. From a purely economic standpoint, immigration is good since in the long term, each immigrant on average will be a net contributor to the nation's welfare (paying more in taxes than the value of government services consumed). It doesn't really make much sense to oppose economics. | | Dr. NO 522 posts
04-20-06 06:32 Reply | I agree with that! Whoo-hoo!
However, government is always inefficient with money and other resources, a roundup of 12 million ILLEGEALS would be quite hard, but its a better option than (flippin') amnesty which mocks the legal immigrants. My boss paid 4K to get in legally from Canada, but politicians want to get more votes. *sigh*
Oh, in the East Valley Tribune (anyone in Az has probably heard of it) someone sent in a "letter" (it was short) reminding (those of) us (who actually paid attention in history :) that Rome's fall was predicated by corrupt politicians giving invading forces amnesty. I would also remind you of the "bread and circuses" of Rome: quite like the present day program of welfare. Obviously, some people need help, but is government really the one that should be in charge of that?
I wonder if the UN would condemn us for building a wall on our border like they did Israel. Not that I care what the UN thinks, but the irony is still frustrating because they are dead serious. If you recall, Israel built a wall on their border to keep out terrorist that were blowing them up, the UN decided that the wall was bad and ordered them to demolish it (the US was alone in defending the wall, if I recall correctly). It was there to keep freakin' suiciders out!!! WTF!!!
I've just scratched the surface...
(Oh, and "WTF" means "Where's Thelma's Finger" and represent severe ticked-off-ness. Acronyms are fun! :) | | Dr. NO 522 posts
